This UPDATE is almost 3 hours long! So be patient when performing this UPDATE. Me, I did this update on my ISTA the night before, so I wouldn't stare at the screen.

A fellow Technician and friend of mine posted this to my site.

I think this may be a REAL helpful tip for those of you out there that have experienced these issues:

I see a lot of those harnesses break at the rear brake calipers, the way they are positioned when the weather pac fails / leaks water gets it and the harness just dissolves.

Those wily Germans! Turns out the automakers are bolstering their sales figures by engaging in a practice know as "self registration". Essentially they're selling the cars to their dealers and to themselves, and creating bogus sales figures by doing it. And deceiving their shareholders in the process.

Car Commando Tip of the Day.
This is generally in regards to the Porsche Model:
2007 PORSCHE Cayenne Turbo

MIL light ON. Code P2404 EVAP emission system leak detection pump sensor circuit range performance.

If you get a Cayenne with an EVAP code make sure you check for oil in the leak detection pump (LDP as it's called).

As I have seen this for the third time this year in relationship to the turbo models, go and check the old vacuum pump once it is removed and search for oil in the assembly. It's just, like the BMW brake booster pumps.

Filmmakers from Wake Forest University are at work on a full length documentary celebrating the station wagon! It's about friggen time...this is exactly the kind of film that an old fart with no life like me wants to watch! Brings back memories of road trips through the White Mountains with my parents back in the '60's; black bears on top of 50 foot poles, cheesy plastic "Indian" artifacts and our brakes overheating on the Kancamagus Highway.

For vehicles produced before 12/2006:
 
If terminal 15 can no longer be switched using the START-STOP button, or the electrical steering interlock (ELV) cannot be unlocked, check IBS (Intelligent Battery System) cable (located on the negative post of the battery) for traces of dampness.
 
First, extract & examine DTC fault code memory entries regarding the IBS.
 
IBS can be defective due to moisture, and keep the wake-up line at high level. In this case, replace the IBS cable.

Car Commando Tip of the Day:
Mercedes ML series: Engine cranks and runs for a few seconds and then codes are set.
 
Codes P1570 and B1703
 
First thing to do is go to terminal 15c at the EIS and see of there is B+ there.
 
If not, jumper B+ to 15c of the EIS and see if the engine starts. Problamatic EIS switches in the
early model (1997 thru 200 163 Chassis Mercedes ML).

Applies to: 2004 > Touareg, Phaeton; 2006 > Passat, Jetta, GTI; 2007 Rabbit, EOS

If for any reason the A/C compressor is shut off by the control head, MVB code may be triggered. Check MVB 13 field 1 for Touareg and Phaeton systems and MVB 1 field 1 for all other vehicles listed (including 2006 and later Climatic systems). Explanations of the cut off codes are listed below.

A/C cut-off Codes

0 = Compressor on (no shut-off requirement of the A/C compressor detected)

1 = Compressor off (refrigerant pressure was or is too high)

It's been a long and tedious 10 days for Gary and I. Though a very successful seminar tour, I have the distinct feeling that "burnout" is right around the corner. Left, Right, Left, Right, Up and Down.........wings across the North American continent.
 
Looking forward to just sitting at my desk and working on the On-Demand Video for the group. and now I have all my ducks lined up in a nice straight row. Time to knock them down starting tomorrow, as long as the jet lag doesn't make me feel like "Godzilla" stepped on me.
